We all know the title “King of the fruits:” durians and mangos. Well, a King is never without their jester. As April Fools slips around the corner, let’s all appreciate the funniest fruit: bananas. Whether it be a slip or a pie in the face, bananas have been at the forefront of the art of laughter. And don’t forget its influence on modern humor and pranks. Think of the banana phone used in movies or tv-shows. What about the banana peel asset in roblox? What about the banana makes it so humorous?
Bananas are yellow. One of the colors most associated with joy, as cited by the National Library of Medicine. It’s so bright that it instantly catches your attention and creates a positive energy that’s prime for setting up a laugh. While it’s a common color for a fruit, from a standpoint in the U.S.A, it’s a rather rare color since the other fruits in the category are considered exotic (e.g. startfruit, jackfruit, durian, and yuzu).
Bananas are a funny shape. Their curvature and smooth surface are unlike most other fruits. Their upward growth against gravity creates the easily identifiable shape (biologyinsights.com). Simply, they are a uniquely shaped fruit and are perfect for distasteful jokes.
Minions. Since the release of the Minions movie franchise, it has taken Facebook by storm. Every parent has used or seen those inspirational or “relateable” quotes with a minion character slapped on. The logic behind this is that the minions are simple funny yellow characters that say a memorable phrase: bananas. This is a lot like monkeys, often generalized to simple minded creatures that serve as the butt of jokes and eat primarily bananas. This fruit is associated with uncomplicated jokes or characters and comedy is most often founded from simple iconic concepts.
