AI art is becoming increasingly popular as it becomes more accessible and easier to do. People who struggle to draw images by hand like to use it so they can create the things in their head. But many traditional artists have found this problematic, with the philosophy that if they really cared, they would learn to do it by hand, just like they have. This has created a huge phenomenon online where artists who create things by hand are actively attacking AI artwork by posting their own artwork and saying anti-AI statements, as well as putting “created by the human hand” stickers on their art.
But why do artists care so much about AI artwork? Does traditional art really have that much more value than AI art? These questions were asked to the freshman, Anna Harris, who responded by saying, “Traditional art is made by humans, and AI is made by artificial intelligence, so it is just made by a bunch of images blobbed together. That takes, like, probably under a minute to do. Well, when a human is making art, it can take them years to do it, and all the practice and hard work, and dedication that is put into it is lost when AI does all the work. Which is really sad. People spend years of their life to go to school, they put in so much time and energy and love into creating things to share with the world. And AI makes ‘art’ in under a minute that has no sentimental meaning.”
In summary, AI art has no emotion in it. Which completely takes away from the entire meaning of art and what art should be. Art is about expressing emotion and thoughts, and AI does not do that whatsoever. All AI does is lump together already formed thoughts through an algorithm to create something that doesn’t even look good. People spend so much time learning how to make their art look good and portray their internal visions, and all of that is lost with AI. The reason why artists hate AI so much is that the meaning of the action is lost.
Although some people don’t understand how much meaning artwork has. So by posting their own artwork online and saying anti-AI things, artists are trying to get people to realize that the sentimental and emotional value in human-created artwork is lost through AI, and that is why they hate it so much. There is no meaning behind it all, and that is what artwork is all about.
