Oh, dear Creature of the Lake,
I dropped a rock into your domain,
as I stepped, and it disturbed your peaceful waters. Beloved,
please don’t take revenge; no stern acts of vengeance, of you I beg.
Oh, esteemed Creature of the Lake,
It was an accident, I swear,
please, don’t drag me in.
Your home is cold. I’m not a strong swimmer.
Oh, exalted Creature of the Lake,
You can—and should—go back to sleep with your
drowned logs, and persisting fish.
I won’t disturb you any longer.
Signed, your humble, troublesome, lowly servant,
Child of the Sky.
