What is mental health? Mental health includes our emotional well-being and our social well-being. It can affect the way we think, feel, and how we handle stress. The effects of mental health can be surprising if you don’t know what you’re struggling with and how you are able to handle your mental health depending on the amount of stress you’re dealing with. Mental health effects can have a lot of diverse factors on your mind and body, if you are struggling with your mental health your mindset could change along with physical changes, the Mental Health Foundation writes that “mental health problems can come with physical symptoms such as depression and anxiety.” The Mental Health Foundation also addresses that “depression can come with headaches, fatigue and can affect your digestive system, and anxiety can create an upset stomach for example and other symptoms can include restlessness and trouble concentrating.” These are only some of the effects of mental health problems, your mental health is also important for your overall health. An example is as follows- the CDC states that “depression increases the risk for many types of physical health problems, particularly long-lasting conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.” This tells us how badly mental health can affect a person who is struggling and what might happen if you don’t deal with the stress that your body is handling.
