So what are the Oscars? The Oscars is a ceremony held to recognize distinguished producers, writers, actors, and all the other people that go into making a great motion picture. The first Oscars were May 16th, 1929. Two-hundred seventy guests gathered in a hotel on Hollywood Boulevard for a banquet dinner. In 2023, The Oscars will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angele, and around 3,400 guests will be attending. The first Oscar recipient was a German actor named Emil Jannings, who won best actor for his performance in the silent film, “The Last Command” (1928). At the time, nobody knew their small ceremony would turn into one of the most coveted events in the film industry. Sealed envelopes hold the results for who wins each award and are not opened until the ceremony. However, a flaw with this was shown in 2017 when the movie “La La Land” was mistakenly announced as best picture. This led to a disappointing evening for “La La Land” and an awkward – yet exciting – evening for the real winners of the award: “Moonlight.” In 2023, the movie with the most Oscar nominations is “Everything Everywhere All at Once” with 11 nominations. Following them is “All Quiet on the Western Front ” and “The Banshees of Inisherin” with 9 nominations. The most desired award given at the Oscars is the “Best Picture” award. This is given to the producers of the film and it is the only category in which every member of the Oscars is eligible to submit a nomination. There have been 591 films nominated for Best Picture and 94 winners. This year the nominees include: “All Quiet on the Western Front,”  “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “The Banshees of Inisherin.” “Elvis,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “The Fabelmans,” “Tár,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Triangle of Sadness,” and “Women Talking.” Who do you think will win the 2023 Oscars?
