Augustus Caesar – Poetry
I have brought glory to Rome.
And though my friends have fallen,
I bear no brute on my chest
For I rise above them mercilessly,
It’s their final time to rest.
Julius has been slain,
And Octavia surrenders herself
As I wait for Death to take me,
I’m another piece of wealth.
I have conquered all my hands can take
And thousands seek demise,
For when I ascended to the throne
Their smiles ran like mud through stone
Before I beat them into bone
And watched light leave their eyes.
Now my heart has been deserted,
And I am left apart.
The rivers no longer shine white,
But run with bitter blood.
A single thought flies through the night:
I have brought glory to Rome.
