Munchies Review: Wendy’s Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger

Stone Wolfgang, Reporter

Ah Wendy’s, back at it again. Wendy’s and I have a complicated relationship. In first grade, she was my favorite. She always gave me delicious frosties and the best nuggets in the business, but I have to be honest. Wendy’s was always just a side-chick for me. Why go to Wendy’s when there’s Chick-Fil-A, McDonald’s, and Taco Bell? Today was the first time in 3 years that I had sat down and had a burger and fries from Wendy’s.  And I have to say that red pigtail freckled friend is surely a major contender.

The new Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger can turn anyone into a rabid Wendy’s addict. In the first bite of this sandwich, my mouth exploded with the classic flavors of pretzel, gooey cheese, and a crisp burger. I had low expectations going into this one, but the shocking blend of salt and cheese is truly godly.

The other shocking element, but still a major contributor to the overall experience of the burger, was the crisp applewood bacon and the even crispier onion rings that make your mouth water. I would say the only negative of the burger was the pickles. The pickles were underwhelming and in my opinion; Wendy’s has always been the slacker when it comes to pickles.

But overall, this sandwich brought me back to those wonderful days of getting a Kung Fu Panda toy in a kid’s meal. If you are a fan of the pretzel and cheese combo, then this is definitely a must-have burger. Wendy’s has more than an incredible 4-4 deal — this burger creates truly reminiscent memories that bring out the child-like side in all of us. I would overall give this burger a 4 star rating.
